About the time card calculator

Enter when you start, when you finish and how long your break is for each day, and the calculator adds up your hours for the week. It shows the total as hours and minutes and as decimal hours, which payroll forms often ask for.

Overtime and pay

Switch on Calculate pay to enter an hourly rate. Hours above the overtime limit are paid at your overtime rate. In the United States, many hourly workers get 1.5 times pay after 40 hours in a week. In the United Kingdom there is no general legal right to overtime pay, so it depends on your contract. Always check your own rules.

Night shifts and breaks

If a shift ends after midnight, just enter the real end time. An end time that is earlier than the start counts as the next day. Breaks are taken off in minutes.

For a single shift, use the time calculator. To count days instead of hours, try the date calculator. Your week is saved in your browser only.

Questions

How do I calculate hours worked with a break?+

Take the end time minus the start time, then subtract the break. For 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30 minute break, that is 8 hours. The calculator does this for every day and adds the week.

What are decimal hours?+

Decimal hours write minutes as a fraction of an hour. 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5, and 7 hours 15 minutes is 7.25. Many payroll systems use them.

How is overtime calculated?+

Hours up to the overtime limit are paid at the normal rate. Hours above it are paid at the normal rate times the overtime multiplier. The default is 40 hours and 1.5 times.

Does it round my time?+

No. It counts exact minutes. If your employer rounds time, apply their rule to the total.

Is my timesheet saved anywhere?+

Only in your own browser, so it is still there next time. Nothing is sent to a server, and you can clear it with the Clear button.
