Planning around the change

When the clocks change, meetings across countries can shift by an hour. Check the new gap on the time zone converter or look up a place on the world clock.

Phones and computers update themselves, but ovens, wall clocks and some cars do not. Set the online alarm clock as a backup for the morning after the change, and count the days with a countdown.

Do the US and the UK change their clocks on the same day?+

No. The US changes earlier in March and later in the autumn than the UK and Europe. For a few weeks each year, the time difference between the two is one hour smaller than usual.

Which places in the US do not change their clocks?+

Arizona, except the Navajo Nation, and Hawaii stay on standard time all year. So do most US territories, including Puerto Rico.

Why do we change the clocks?+

The idea is to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening in summer. Germany introduced it on a large scale in 1916, during the First World War, and many countries followed. Some places have since stopped, and laws can change, so check your government site for news.
